Abstract

We report the results of a retrospective statistical study regarding 102 observations of children and adolescents, hospitalized after a suicide attempt in the child psychiatry unit of the Grenoble Regional University Hospital Center. The socio-demographic data of these patients, the procedures of the suicide attempt, the personal and familial antecedents, the parameters linked with the hospitalization and the psychological follow-up are studied. We underline first the little securizing and little containing character of a large number of families (one couple out of two is dissociated, one father out of three is alcoholic or a heavy drinker, in one third of the cases, one parent is followed or has been followed in psychiatry), second, the frequency of the psycho-pathological antecedents of the patients having attempted to commit suicide (over one thrid of them has already met a psychologist or a psychiatrist before the hospitalization; in one-third of the cases, there are antecedents of suicide attempt at the time of the hospitalization) and finally, the frequency of self-poisoning with a psychotropic drug (78 per cent of the whole of the self-poisonings with drugs).
