Abstract

A case of acute self intoxication with herbicide containing diuron, atrazine and aminotriazole, is reported. The patient, a 35 year old man, developed a progressive, quiet and hypotonic coma, no convulsion, hypothermia, and severe lactic acidosis (blood pH to 7.16 and lactate concentration to 19.7 mmoles/l, on admission). Massive bicarbonate administration and haemodialysis were ineffective and the patient died twelve hours after ingestion of herbicide. Toxicity of the solvent, propylene-glycol, is discussed.
