Abstract

The glut of medical malpractice suits mandates that physicians develop a 'litigation consciousness' about the drugs they prescribe. This article presents some basic principles of clinical pharmacology that can be used to minimize the likelihood of error in prescribing drugs or obtaining informed consent and reviews actual cases that illustrate valuable lessons in risk management.
