Abstract

Many substances to reduce physical and psychological pain have been used in the whole of human history. Very important advances in the scientific progress represent psychopharmacological discovery in fifty years. Psychodrugs use involves two iatrogenic objections: Toxicity of tricyclic antidepressives, often utilized in suicide tentatives, and dependence on anxiolytic benzodiazepines. Three factors take part in the pharmacological dependence, psychoactive substance, personality subject and his environment. A brief description of the prevention and therapeutic models is exposed (moralist, psychoanalyst, medical, psychiatric, social and bio-psycho-social). At last the author proposes several rules for prevention of psychopharmacological iatrogenia.
