Abstract

School-based intervention and mainstream assistance teams are becoming more widespread as teachers increasingly try to meet the complex needs of students at risk (Fuchs, Fuchs, & Bahr, 1990). In this regard, never has the need for team-based collaboration between educational professionals and community agency personnel been greater. For several years, we have been offering a 5-day workshop titled "Students At Risk" which presents an overview of various risk factors including dysfunctional families, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, adolescent suicide, poverty, and juvenile delinquency. During the final day of the workshop we organize participants into teams to develop intervention plans to assist an identified student at risk. In this article, we describe: (a) our method of integrating teacher expertise and community resources, (b) the rationale and structure of the team conferences, and (c) our intervention evaluation system. © 1992 Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, Inc.
