Abstract

This paper examines attitudes, myths, and causes associated with suicide in children and adolescents. Treatment issues and risk assessment are discussed with special attention to limitations in predicting risk. Ethical and legal issues are reviewed. Finally, management of the suicidal patient in a treatment setting is discussed with special attention given to assisting staff who are impacted by suicidal behavior in a patient. © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
