Abstract

OBJECTIVE To investigate the relationship between hopelessness and resilience and the role they play in the formation of suicidal ideation.

METHODS Questionnaire survey was conducted on 709 college students ,and 682 college students were assessed by Beck hopelessness scale ,the resilience scale of university students and self-rating idea of suicide scale(SIOSS).

RESULTS 7.0% of the college students had suicidal ideation.Compared with students without suicidal ideation ,those who had suicidal ideation had higher scores in hopelessness(P<0.01) ,but lower scores in resilience(P<0.01).Resilience partly mediated the relationship be-tween hopelessness and suicidal ideation (P<0.01).

CONCLUSION Hopelessness and resilience have significant influences on suicide ideation.
