Abstract

LGBTQ + youth are at a higher risk of attempting or committing suicide than their peers. With this knowledge comes the present need for safe spaces and welcoming communities where individuals will not only feel comfortable interacting with individuals they identify with, but also where they will find sound and reliable counseling services for those in crisis. While there are quite a few reliable sites providing these communities and services, two stand out above the rest: The Trevor Project and the It Gets Better Project. While each play vastly unique roles in their mission for LGBTQ + youth, one overarching goal is clear--to support and welcome everyone. We are all human, and we all deserve to be loved and accepted for who we are. Each community reviewed in this column excels in providing this basic human right. © 2022 The Author(s).
