Abstract

OBJECTIVE: to analyze epidemiological data regarding suicide deaths in Brazil from 2010 to 2019.

METHOD: retrospective, quantitative research, whose data were obtained in December 2020 in the database of the Departamento de Informática of the Brazilian Sistema Único de Saúde.

RESULTS: between 2010 and 2019, Brazil recorded, on an annual basis, 112,166 deaths by suicide, with a mortality rate due to this cause of 6.4/100,000 inhabitants in 2019. Males were the majority, in the proportion of 8:2, on average, with a trend of growth in mortality rates for men and women.

CONCLUSION: suicide mortality rates in Brazil increased significantly and with an increasing trend in all Brazilian regions and in 19 Federation Units. © 2022 Universidade Federal da Bahia. All rights reserved.
