Abstract

Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a highly prevalent and serious public health problem among adolescents, but adolescents often conceal these behaviors. Self-disclosure refers to the behavior of individuals to communicate their relevant information to others. Disclosure of engagement in non-suicidal self-injury behaviors may provide a significant opportunity for support and help from outside. This review summarized the NSSI disclosure rate of adolescents, recipients of disclosure, the promoting factors, and barriers of disclosure, and examined the role and impact of NSSI disclosure to provide a theoretical basis for relevant clinical practice and research in the future. © 2022 Chinese Journal of Psychiatry.
