Abstract

Talking about dying and death is reckoned to be an area of social taboo par excellence. This seems to apply especially to the handling of suicides. When talking about suicides, it is obvious and expectable that expressions are used that contain forms of concealment and disguise. Based on examples of different texts types, this paper deals with the respective perspective of the issue of suicide in mass media, obituary notes, condolences and suicide notes to show the area of conflict between revealing and disguise. © 2022, The Author(s).
