Abstract

Psychiatric conditions are common among patients with advanced illness who are referred to palliative care services. They must be diagnosed and managed appropriately to improve supportive and end-of-life care. Psychiatric illness can cause considerable distress to both patients and their families. This brief review considers the prevalence, diagnosis and management of cognitive impairment, delirium, dementia, depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation in the individuals known to palliative care. © 2022
