Abstract

The objective of this work is to develop a popular criterion for the prediction of glass breakage in fires. Based on the energy conservation equations and conservative assumptions, a critical heat flux is used for single glass breaking in enclosure fires. The criterion of heat flux is not restricted by frame types and glass types. It is convenient to choose suitable glass and frame type through the calculation based on the fire dynamics simulation for engineering applications of performance-based fire design.
