Abstract

An experiment was conducted in this investigation to study quantitatively the effect of water spray on fire suppression and extinction with additive. An environmental friendly additive is adopted in this project. The new additive formula not only will not corrode metal but is also non-toxic to the human body. In order to study the fire-extinguishing efficiency provided by different water droplet sizes under the same water supply rates, different characteristics of water spray nozzles were designed and fabricated for experimental program. In addition, the effects of water droplet size, another important parameter, and the distance of nozzle-to-fuel surface were also used to investigate the fire-extinguishing parameters for a water mist spray system, with additive. The results will be presented by both smoke temperature and fire extinguished time for different design parameters.
