Abstract

An ever larger number of States around the World is legalising assisted suicide and euthanasia, and in just one year the Constitutional Courts of Italy, Germany and Austria declared national bans on assisted suicide unconstitutional. In this article the author provides for a comparison of the legislative policies and strategies adopted by States in legalising end-of-life decisions, highlighting commonalities and differences. In the last paragraphs the author takes briefly in consideration the lastly approved Portuguese and Spanish laws and the Italian proposals. © 2021 Societa Editrice Il Mulino. All rights reserved.
