Abstract

This manuscript reports the autopsy and radiologic findings associated with a unique type of shotgun/revolver ammunition (Winchester PDX-1 Defender). A review of literature was conducted which revealed only one other report of wounding with this ammunition, but that report was not of a suicidal gunshot wound as in this case. We discuss the unique characteristics of the ammunition and why it can lead to confusion for forensic pathologists, law enforcement and forensic radiologists as it is an atypical, mixed type of ammunition with subsequent unique physical and radiologic features. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd
