Abstract

Statistics of fire numbers and floor areas of buildings within the past 20 years were integrated to produce fire probability, frequency, and cycle of each building categories in Taiwan. The National Fire Agency, Ministry of the Interior (MOI), and the local government fire bureaus conducted an extensive investigation into building fire cases ranked as "conflagration" or "large fires" according to fire damage ranking. Data were acquired on 311 fire incident cases with the relevant cause, time, location, number of casualties, and loss. This study also used research from other documents to produce 20 fire safety assessment criterions and 4 fire safety strategies. Local government fire bureau specialists were requested to complete a questionnaire using the 20-fire safety assessment criterion based on these 311 fire cases. The results are represented using calculated weight values for the 20 fire safety assessment criterions and 4 fire safety strategies. These precise quantified data will be employed as the reference for proprietors to improve the fire safety measures for their buildings and carry out the building fire management and prevention.
