Abstract

The article summarises and analyses the reasoning of the German Federal Constitutional Court's ruling on assisted suicide and comments on the conclusions to be drawn for possible legislative solutions to the problem. It argues that the comprehensive reference to the aspect of human dignity and the extensive explanations of the prerequisites for freely responsible decision-making speak against understanding the ruling simply in terms of a far-reaching liberalisation logic. © Zeitschrift für medizinische Ethik, Basel.All rights reserved.
