Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Suicide and suicide attempts are one of the most relevant public health problems. At present, efforts have been made to prevent it, seeking to reduce risk factors and favoring the enhancement of protective factors.

OBJECTIVE: Determine the most effective interventions for the prevention of suicidal ideation in schooled adolescents according to reports in the scientific literature.

METHODology: A systematic review of the literature was carried out in the SciELO, Web of Science, Medline via PubMed, Journal Ovid databases, under Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta - Analyses (PRISMA) methodology, including experimental, quasi-experimental studies, and systematic reviews in Spanish and English, published from 2014 to 2020. The Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care (CTFPHC) tool was used to assess the evidence and degrees of recommendation.

RESULTS: Cognitive-behavioral interventions showed better levels of evidence and degrees of recommendation compared with the others, in addition to the three systematic reviews. The most effective interventions in reducing behavior and ideation were REFRAME-IT, SAFETY and Family Based Crisis Intervention (FBCI) programs. Additionally, systematic reviews reported efficacy using mentalization therapy.

CONCLUSIONS: The most effective interventions for the prevention of suicidal ideation were framed in the context of cognitive-behavioral therapy. The articles included in the review had, for the most part, high levels of evidence and moderate degrees of recommendation. © 2021. All Rights Reserved.
