Abstract

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are first-line treatments for common psychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Whether such drugs increase the risk of suicide among children and adolescents has been controversial. In recent years, many researchers have conducted Meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials involving SSRIs for the risk of suicide in children and adolescents with mental disorders, large database pharmacoepidemiological studies, Meta-analyses of observational studies, and toxicological studies. There has been no systematic review of the results of these large sample studies, therefore, this study made a comprehensive review of the above-mentioned four types of studies in the past ten years, in order to understand more clearly the risk of SSRIs for resulting in suicide in children and adolescents, and provide guidance for the rational use of drugs for children and adolescents with mental disorders. © 2020, Chinese Journal of New Drugs Co.
