Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Analyze themes covered in posts related to a shooting followed by suicide at a school in the city of Suzano (SP).

METHODS: Exploratory, retrospective study with a qualitative approach. Were analyzed first 1,000 Portuguese posts on Twitter identified by the term "Suzano" on the date of March 13, 2019. The postings were collected through screen capture, transcribed, and coded, followed by qualitative analysis of the material through Thematic Analysis.

RESULTS: Three categories were formulated: 1-Initial reactions to school shooting (perception of social solidarity, memories of other tragedies and emotional impact); 2-(Des) social service in social media-what to learn (debate the responsibility of the media and impact on public health); 3-Identifying risk factors for school shooting (notes on violent content relation, virtual environment and carrying weapons as risk factors for school shooting and reflection on promotion in mental health).

CONCLUSIONS: The results point to actions related to school violence, promotion of mental health and healthy and responsible use of social media, and id gaps for future research. © 2020, Nucleo de Estudos da Saude do Adolescente. All rights reserved.
