Abstract

This current investigation aimed to study the prevalence and associated factors of overweight/obesity among school-going adolescents in Cook Islands and Wallis and Futuna. Cross-sectional nationally representative data were analysed from 1,818 adolescents that participated in the "2015 Wallis Futuna and Cook Islands Global School-Based Student Health Survey (GSHS)." Body height and body weight were assessed by self-report. The predictors of overweight/obesity were estimated with logistic regression analyses.

RESULTS indicate that the prevalence of over-weight/obesity was 63.2%, 62.6% in Wallis Futuna and 63.8% in Cook Islands; the prevalence of obesity was 33.6%. In multivariable logistic regression analysis for Cook Islands, older age and female sex were associated with overweight/obesity, while in the regression model for Wallis and Futuna, none of the study variables were found significantly associated with overweight/obesity. Very high prevalence rates of overweight/obesity were found which requires urgent attention. © Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
