Abstract

In the Hippocratic paradigm is life is teleological, and on that assumption there is a sharp difference between killing and letting die. On the contrary the Italian Constitutional Court asserted the equivalence of killing and letting die, dismantling the Hippocratic paradigm. Not only is Italy on the forefront in permitting assisted suicide, but such a decision requires the conceptual distinction between two different kinds of "killing": killing as terminating a life by merely cutting a biological life's finalism off, and as killing as causing the death of a biographical life. © 2020, Tipolito Subalpina.
