Abstract

The aim of this research is to validate the Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire (INQ-15) for the Portuguese population. This measure assesses perceived burdensomeness and thwarted belongingness according to Joiner's (2005) Interpersonal-Psychological Theory of Suicide. In the first study, Principal Component Analysis demonstrated the existence of three factors and was also demonstrated an adequate internal consistency, convergent validity and criterion related to validity, using suicide risk as criteria. The second study demonstrated the predictive validity of the INQ-15 scales at five months and the criterion related to validity using suicide ideation as criteria. In the third study, results support the discriminant validity of the INQ-15 scales and confirm the factorial structure of three factors, obtained in the first study. In the last study, the temporal stability of the two INQ-15 scales within a 2 weeks interval was confirmed. © 2019 AIDEP. All rights reserved.
