Abstract

Equipping canting keels and other innovative systems, adopting advanced technologies in yacht building, and selecting larger dimensions have been the focus of yacht building trends. Known as high performance maxi yachts, the dimensions of this category of yachts usually reach between 25-45 meters and require a professional crew, i.e. trained seamen. The authors focus on defining, as part of their entire maxi yacht design, the consequences of canting keel system managing operations' crew interaction, which may have both significant negative and significant positive impacts on a sailing yacht's hydrostatic characteristics. The authors analyze how hydrostatic characteristics are influenced by a maxi yacht canting keel system. The authors have also defined, as it relates to crew safety, the heel's critical angle, as well as such areas on the righting arm surface. The authors' high performance maxi yacht design, with an overall length of 30 meters and a
