Abstract

The article provides an analysis of the life and work of Edward Stachura (1937-1979) through the lens of the transgressive model, close to the "beatnik" model. In the case of Stachura, as with the Beatniks, the transgression occurs simultaneously at several levels: In life, in his writing practices, in the creative process, in literature. In the end, by constantly merging life and writing, Stachura reaches the limits of a literature that exists through a printed form. This is best illustrated in his diaries, at least in their original handwritten version (27 to 28 notebooks). The article analyses several fiinctions of Stachura's diaries, including their self-help dimension (he committed suicide on July 24, 1979). It then highlights how Stachura transgressed the codes of print culture and modem literature through his manuscript jouraaling practice. © 2019 Institut d'Etudes Slaves. All rights reserved.
