Abstract

Suicide by hanging is the most common method used in our country. A study was conducted in fatal hanging cases done at the department of Forensic medicine and Toxicology, Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research centre, Bengaluru from January 2015-June 2016. The main objectives of this study is to study the age, sex distribution, methods used & motives, in all autopsy cases of death due to hanging. A total of 110 cases of suicides were studied out of which hanging constituted 75.45% of the cases. Males were the predominant group. The maximum cases were noticed between the age ranges of 21-30 years. The youngest age seen was 15year, and oldest age was 70years.
