Abstract

Introduction. Modern drugs can form drug addiction in just a few doses. Patients with drug addiction are at risk of infection. They promote the spread of HIV infection, viral hepatitis, venereal diseases, and other dangerous infectious diseases. The annual mortality of patients with drug addiction is 3-5% of the total number of the observed patients.

PURPOSE. To study the dynamics of the spread of drug addiction in the Republic of Belarus over the past 10 years, to analyze the causes of mortality of patients with drug addiction, including overdose of narcotic drugs, to develop approaches for prevention of mortality.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. We studied the statistical data on the prevalence of drug addiction in the Republic of Belarus and the mortality of patients with drug addiction in regional centers and Minsk, the causes of death of patients with drug addiction.

RESULTS and discussion. On April 1, 2019, 7630 (per 100 thousand people, 80.5) patients with drug addiction syndrome and 5039 (per 100 thousand people, 53.2) patients, who use narcotic drugs with harmful consequences are registered in the Republic of Belarus. In 2018, 4003 patients were removed from the dispensary drug registration in connection with death. The main causes of death of patients were somatic diseases, accidents, suicides, death from alcohol or other fluid poisoning. The cases of death because of overdose are registered annually. In order to prevent the spread of drug addiction in the Republic of Belarus and reduce the mortality rate of the population, the state has taken a series of measures.

CONCLUSION. The degree of probability of overdose for any drug user is very high, and its risk is higher than individual risk in persons with drug addiction. © 2019, UE Professional Editions. All rights reserved.
