Abstract

The German suicide screening instrument SIRAS was triailed for 3 months in the Berlin remand prison. Of the 605 completed screening forms, about 14% of the subjects had a positive screening and were presented to psychological or medical staff. The preliminary results of the follow-up showed clear differences in drug prescription between the high-risk and non-high-risk subjects. In summary, we can say that the introduction of the screening instrument resulted in numerous changes within the prison system, but prison staff was reluctant to accept and implement the screening instrument. © 2018 Psychiatrie-Verlag GmbH.
