Abstract

Intentional non-fatal acts which were aimed to end life are called Parasuicide acts. Because of under reporting of these cases and concealment of information about such attempted suicides, literature is scarce. Since, parasuicide survivor may be left with residual temporary or permanent disability, it should be dealt seriously. The only way to deal with parasuicide is by controlling risk factors for parasuicide, which will also be helpful in preventing completed suicides. This review presents the risk factors, socio-demographic profile and methods opted for parasuicide with an emphasis on the legal liabilities of parasuicide. © 2018, Indian Journal of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology.
