Abstract

This study tried to investigate the effect of elderly women's participation in community dance on suicidal ideation, and the effect of their social capital on suicidal ideation. The data was collected from 167 elderly women, participating in community dance, were sampled from senior welfare centers and community centers. This study used a questionnaire as survey tool. We asked old women to respond the questions in the self-administration method, or the assistants read questions to old women and filled out the questionnaire. The data were under the t-test, one way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results were as follows. First, there were significant differences in social capital and serious suicidal ideation according to community dance participating frequency and satisfaction level with participation. Second, self-trust and social relation network had negative effects on serious suicidal ideation, and, trust in others, self-trust, and trust in policy had negative effects on slight suicidal ideation. To change elderly women's thinking and attitude toward suicidal ideation positively, it was need to attract elderly women to make social capital by active participation in community dance. © 2018, Indian Journal of Public Health Research and Development.
