Abstract

Couples suffering from psychic disorders who want to have a child: what form of care can be offered? Pregnancy is a major event for any woman. For those suffering from a serious psychiatric pathology, the transition towards parenthood is for most of the time a vector of hope but can be complex and the source of acute decompensations, even when the pathology seems to have been stabilised for several years. The consequences for the mother are sometimes serious, suicide, for example, being the primary cause of maternal death during the year that follows birth, but also for the child and the couple. These women must therefore benefit from the most suitable therapeutic care in anticipation of a pregnancy and during the perinatal period. The cico (Consultation of Information, Advice and Orientation for both Child Psychiataric-Adult Psychiatric Patients), has been set up for women being treated for severe mental pathology who are either pregnant or planning to have a child, with the aim of offering a coherent programme of care during pregnancy and after birth. © 2018 Editions Eres.
