Abstract

Violence against women is a serious psychological, physical, or sexual acts against women, which pose a danger to women's mental health, such as depression and suicide attempt, as well as maternal and neonatal health problems.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the level of depressive among women experienced domestic violence, as well as identifying the association between depression and domestic violence. This descriptive correlational study included a convenient sample of (300) women who were exposed to different types of domestic violence. Sample was selected from six primary healthcare centers in AL-Hilla City.

FINDINGS revealed that (62.0%) of women experienced different types of domestic violence; most of them reported that they exposed to domestic violance by their husbands. The study indicates that most of participants (68.7%) had moderate level of depression and about (12%) had sever level. There was a statistical significant association between all types of domestic violence and signs of depression (p<0.05). Statistical significant correlations were also found between womens' age, amrital status, and domestic violence. Most of women exposed to domestic violance by their husbands, commonly the sychological type of violence. Any type of domestic violence the women experience increases their vulnerability to depression, specially especislly unmarried women. © 2018, Indian Journal of Public Health Research and Development.
