Abstract

The American Medical Association (AMA) criticizes physician-assisted suicide (PAS) and physician-facilitated euthanasia (PE) chiefly on the grounds that they would ultimately cause more harm than good. This essay rebuts the AMA's case, by drawing upon recent work in the philosophy of death that is concerned with the notion of harm and the harmfulness of death. © 2017 by Johns Hopkins University Press.
