Abstract

Barbital - once the first commercially available barbiturate - is no longer used in medical practice. Intoxications with oral barbiturates have become rare. This case report presents a unusual, near fatal barbital intoxication in a young man who ingested a barbital-buffer in suicidal intention. Different aspects of clinical presentation, diagnosis and therapy are outlined.
