Abstract

Based on meetings with a hospitalized patient, we questioned the meaning of repeated suicidal behaviour. An updating of thoughts, which permitted to avoid situations of separation, was understood as an act of speech in resonance with psychological trauma. The care facilities provided a space for listening which enabled us to make the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder, through the study of the patient's biography and recent medical history. Psychotherapy has led the patient to work on the repetition of acts, considered as acting out, and has provided a meaning by working out repressed emotions.
