Abstract

The data on unnatural female deaths in a particular geographic area can give the reflection of its law and order situation. Present Descriptive Observational study was conducted at the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, SMS Medical college and attached Hospitals Jaipur (Rajasthan) during period of June'2014 to May'2015. Total 4097 medico-legal autopsies were conducted among them 850 cases were concluded to be female unnatural deaths. Burn is the leading cause of death. As per manner of death, accidental burn cases predominated the study followed by suicidal and homicidal cases. Second decade age group is most vulnerable for deaths due to burns. Suicidal deaths caused by burns outnumbered in married females and mental agony was the major reason for commitment of the act. 40 cases of unnatural female deaths were registered under section 498A and /or 304B of IPC. Distribution and causes of unnatural female deaths in present study are more or less similar to the pattern found in most of the other Indian studies. This study suggests variable measures to scrutinize unnatural female deaths to improve the plight. © 2016, World Informations Syndicate. All rights reserved.
