Abstract

Music can lead a person to some unexpected condition and even to death in its worst case. As an example, a gloomy music first presented in 1935 led many people who listened to it to commit suicide, hence killing 187 people. Most think music is only heard through ears but human auditory stimulus influences the entire body and causes various effects. The vibration and energy in music are absorbed by the body affecting it from blood flows and muscle movements to psychological stimulus. This is the reason why various impressions are aroused when listening to music. Acoustic characteristics of music that induce depression and those that induce happiness are compared in this paper, and characteristics of music inducing sadness/depression are identified with special elements of chord and frequency. © 2016 International Information Institute.
