Abstract

Since the late 20th century, studies have explored what factors prim arily impact people's life satisfaction. The studies, however, have focused only on personal or economic factors, such as income, education, and health status. Some researchers have reported that the social welfare system is correlated with a decrease in suicide rate, but not with life satisfaction. To test whether social welfare system s im pact people's life satisfaction in OECD countries, this study adopted the OECD Better Life Index, in which 'jobs, com m unity, civil engagem ent, a nd safety' were used as social welfare factors. Based on the outcomes, this paper discusses what factors in the welfare system are more important in increasing people's life satisfaction and suggests their im plications for both the academ ia and practical application. © 2015 Common Ground, Kapil Kumar Tripathi, Jinman Kyonne, Aram Lee, All Rights Reserved.
