Abstract

In a previous paper (Luauté, 2014), we have shown that a prevailing view in France advocates the existence of a direct link between the current conditions of work and work-related suicide. In addition to the choice of the whereabouts, specific accusations by those who commit suicide, tend sometimes to confirm the protesting signification of their action. Therefore, they can be regarded as modes of revenge and sacrifice closely patterned on far-eastern traditions of voluntary death. In each time, the lack of an individual psychopathological factor is subsumed. Having recourse to suicide is now viewed as a major mode of political expression which deserves to be considered as an insidious form of terrorism. At-work suicides as spectacular phenomena, as well as present days' acts of terrorism, are inconceivable without the role of mass media in our societies. © 2015 Elsevier Masson SAS.
