Abstract

The article discusses suicide in the case of seriously ill patients as well as assisting in such a suicide from the perspective of the right of self-determination. It advocates a legal clarification that will enable patients and doctors to make autonomous decisions. Such a legal provision could guard against improper forms of assisted suicide and should create transparency as well as legal certainty. © Gütersloher Verlagshaus 2015.
