Abstract

This study was performed to evaluate the subjective health and suicidal behaviors among students with early, on-time and late menarche in middle and high school and the association of pubertal timing with subjective health and suicide risk. The subjects were selected using data from the 9th Korea Risk Behavior Web-based Survey 2013 (KYRBS) which included 35, 739 adolescent girls from 1st grade of middle and 3rd grade of high school. There were statistically significant differences among three groups in subjective health perception, subjective body image, subjective happiness, suicidal ideation, suicidal plan, and suicidal attempts. In a multivariate logistic regression model, early menarche did persist as a risk factor for subjective health perception, subjective body image, suicidal plan, and suicidal attempt. Professionals including teachers and school nurses working with adolescents and parents should pay attention to the psychological health needs of early maturing adolescents. © Research India Publications.
