Abstract

An ethical analysis of the major arguments which are put forward in favor of a legalization of physician assisted suicide referring to the autonomy, the dignity and the suffering of the patient, shows several problems in the position of the defenders. On the other hand also the classical moral-theological counter-arguments referring to the creatureliness of the human being and the unnatural character of suicide are based on very different premises the persuasiveness of which needs to be reconstructed very carefully. © 2015 Schwabenverlag AG.
