Abstract

The article examines the problem of a lack of empirical studies of minds of terrorists. It is suggested to study mental characteristics of perpetrators of terrorist crimes not when they serve their sentence but in the course of preliminary investigation. This approach will undoubtedly contribute to objective establishment of subjective aspect of a crime and provide reliable information during subsequent scientific researches.; There is a lack of recommendations for forensic examinations aimed at studying mental activity of terrorists in domestic specialized literature. Examples from judicial practice show the need for forensic psychiatry, forensic psychology and forensic psychological and psychiatric examinations in cases of crimes of a terrorist nature. The article specifies the possibility to identify motivation of terrorist with the help of forensic psychological examination and justifies the expediency of postmortem forensic psychology (forensic psychological and psychiatric) examination of suicide bombers as well as postcriminal suicide of terrorists in the course of preliminary investigation. © 2014, Criminology Journal of Baikal National University of Economics and Law.
