Abstract

The treatment of bipolar affective disorder (BP) is a really difficult task. One of most challenging is to treat depressive episodes. "Too active" treatment may lead to worsening of the illness course - i.e. shortening of remission periods, rapid cycling, and treatment resistance. From the other hand if the treatment is too passive depression may last much longer with greater suicide risk. This paper discussed the latest results and opinions concerning pharmacotherapy of depression in BP patients. © Copyright 2014 Via Medica.
