Abstract

More young people than adults gamble problematically and this is a concern for policy makers and treatment services. There is a wide range of risk factors, some modifiable and some not. From a public health perspective, preventative strategies have shown some success. Psychological interventions are the mainstay of treatment of young gamblers; pharmacological treatments are yet to be robustly evaluated in this age group. In this paper, I will provide an overview of the epidemiology, assessment, and treatment of gambling in young people. Copyright © 2013 by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
