Abstract

BACKGROUND: Recognition signals impending suicide case in a patient with either somatic or mental illness is a part of medical practice and an important preventive measure. The aim of the survey was to assess respondents' opinions on prejudices associated with suicides, to determine which risk factors in the prediction of the suicidal risk everything and evaluate the measures proposed in such cases.

PATIENTS AND METHODS: Survey covered 239 respondents participated, including 193 women and 46 men. Patients were divided into a subset of 165 nurses (mainly from internal departments) and the subset of 74 university medical students (future medical doctors and students emergency medical care). Opinions and attitudes of the respondents were obtained by questionnaires and evaluate the statistical program R (2011).

RESULTS: Only 44% of respondents correctly identified the myths associated with suicides, students identified 13% more myths than nurses. Suicidal behavior in anamnesis were considered by respondents as the most important risk predictors of the suicide (79%), social risk factors respondents preferred before clinical risk factors. Women determined higher risk of suicide than men (p <0.05), in the responses of future medical doctors and students emergency medical care were no significant differences (p = 0.76). Most respondents would provide risk person transport and psychiatric examination, less than half of the respondents, however, at this advanced eagerly. Respondents avoid more consistent interaction with the person at risk. The change in suitable antisuicidal provisions is affected neither by gender (p = 0.065), nor by the responses between future medical doctors and students emergency medical care (p=0.97).

CONCLUSION: The exposed deficiencies in awareness of suicide suggest gradually eliminate frequent ranking of the topics in educational activities.
