Abstract

Introduction, and Materials and Methods: Present condition in Japan requires suicide prevention measures that are effective and specific. To that end, detailed studies of suicide are crucial, and studies of aspects related to suicide are needed.

DISCUSSION of suicide and alcohol consumption is one aspect of suicide prevention. This report mainly reviews suicide and alcohol consumption in Japan and it discusses suicide prevention in relation to alcohol consumption. Review and Conclusion: Measures related to alcohol consumption are a crucial component of suicide prevention measures. In the past, suicide prevention measures in Japan have mainly dealt with psychiatric disorders in the form of depression, but the need for other measures, like those to deal with alcohol-related problems, has been cited in recent years. Measures related to alcohol-related problems must be implemented through cooperation between relevant fields and bodies and the public to prevent suicide. © 2013 Japan International Cultural Exchange Foundation & Japan Health Sciences University.
