Abstract

The malaise of carers no longer needs demonstrating and is growing to the point of "burn out", or even suicide. Individual and collective elaboration in a group setting constitutes a real antidote for fighting against the power it has over the doctor, the health care worker or the social worker, but also the patient. Elaboration liberates the speech of a thinking "subject" in search of meaning and truth, which makes him an actor of humanist medecine. In an attempt to show this, I propose to take as my starting-point the experience and research-training process of a Balint group in order to examine the human roots of the elaboration that it gives rise to, and to evaluate its relevance and impact on both individual and collective equilibrium and fulfilment.
