Abstract

Recent scientific evidence highlights the importance of the body, in its both cognitive and emotional aspects, and this stimulates therapists to seek more integrated forms of therapy. This article introduces the Neo-Funcionalism approach, which is a key therapeutic approach that emphasises the importance of the body. The first part of the article provides evidence supporting the approach and discusses two of its most important components: the functions and the basic experiences. In the second part of the article, the two conceptual components are discussed with reference to a case report of therapeutic work. © 2013 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
